Resources Teaching Punctuation
Resource Preview In order to become efficient and effective writers, children need to be able to select and use different forms of punctuation accurately. It can help them construct sentences for different forms of text that have an impact on the reader. The correct use of punctuation enables the children to illustrate their understanding of topics across the curriculum. You need to provide opportunities in all aspects of English lessons for the children to explore how to use punctuation including examining punctuation marks used during a guided reading activity or correcting a piece of homework.

One of the most effective ways of teaching punctuation is by developing the children's proof reading skills so that they are able to successfully identify and correct any punctuation errors in their writing. The class can also explore how positioning punctuation marks can change the meaning of different sentences.
