Resources Seaside Adventures
Resource Preview Visits to the seaside can provide an excellent opportunity to develop the children's practical, investigative, creative and design skills in subjects across the National Curriculum. Working in science, the children can explore the properties of different materials that can be found on the beach. Remind the class about working safely when handling materials and that they should only examine natural materials and not other materials that might have washed up on the beach. The children can use collected beach materials to produce collages and artwork reflecting seaside themes such as modelling mermaids using pebbles for the scales and seaweed for hair.

The children can develop geographical skills by investigating the effect on the seaside of natural erosion and the problems created by human development. They can utilise design skills by developing products to solve a problem that can be found at the seaside such as designing a bin that keeps the litter inside when the wind is blowing strongly.
