Resources Christmas Cards
Resource Preview Get the children to develop their art and design and literacy skills by helping them make a range of festive Christmas cards to send to their family and friends using different shapes and materials. The class can investigate some shop bought cards to learn from their structure and design before producing their own versions. Help the children test how to use materials to create different effects such as layering card to make a 3D effect or selecting natural materials to convert into a Christmas scene. The class can identify different ways of shaping and joining the materials to use on the front of a card.

The children can develop their English skills by composing and writing poems and special messages to include inside their cards to wish their family and friends a Merry Christmas. The class can also select some title messages to add to the front of their cards using different colours, shapes and patterns so that they stand out clearly.


Resource Preview Santa Cards
Teaching activities to get the children to design and produce Christmas card designs using layers of different shapes. The class can explore shapes used in Christmas images to create their own examples to use on the front of a card.

Recommended Teaching Group: Reception

Resource Preview Card Halves
Art and Design lesson plan to help the children cut halves of shapes to make festive Christmas cards. The class can investigate how to divide shapes into half which can then be used on the front of card and decorated on a Christmas theme.

Recommended Teaching Group: Year 1

Resource Preview Christmas Trees
Art and Design activity to help the children select shapes, colours and materials to use in a collage of a Christmas tree. The completed tree collages can then be used as the image on the front of a Christmas card.

Recommended Teaching Group: Year 2

Resource Preview Snowflakes Prints
Art and Design lesson plan to help the children practise different ways of printing repeating patterns of snowflake shapes and designs. The class can use the completed snowflake patterns to decorate the front of a Christmas card to send to their family and friends. .

Resource Preview Starry Night Cards
Art and Design activity to help the children design and produce Christmas card designs based on a painting by Van Gogh. The class can explore how to use paint to create different effects for a Christmas card illustration.
